Bring back the sound of computer fans

FanFan is an audio application developed by Guilherme Rambo. Free to download and use, this program simulates the sound of computer fans. It comes with a fan-simulating engine that mimics the sonorous noise that Mac computers with Intel processors have.

FanFan is a prank app for MacOS 11 and Apple Silicon Mac users who miss the sounds of Mac computers in the past. The software is lightweight, easy to use, and works in your menu bar. However, there are no other functions that this program offers. It even lacks useful features, such as volume control.

What is FanFan?

If you are a long-time Mac computer user, you would probably recall the days when Macs still had Intel processors. These computers come with fans, which emit sounds whenever the processor has a heavy load. However, newer Mac devices no longer have this. Although the current Macs with M1 chips have a fan, it actually only runs when needed. MacBook Air even lacks active cooling, completely removing the background noise.

FanFan is a little app that brings the nostalgia of fan noise. As mentioned, it simulates the sound of the fan that Mac Intel computers have. This funny app comes with a fan-simulating engine that can copy—more or less—the sound of many mobile computers in the past. It is lightweight and comes with a simple operation for ease of use. Moreover, it works in the menu bar.

However, users should note that the sound that the app simulates depends on the processor's load. With this, it can only produce a roaring sound if the processor has a heavy load. Not only that, but the app also lacks helpful features, such as volume control. With this, the noise can be a bit much, especially if you are using a headphone.

Noise blast from the past

Overall, FanFan is a fun Mac app to have if you are a fan of the fan noise from mobile computers in the past. The software brings the sound of Intel Mac's huffing and buffing sound to Apple's latest Macs. It is easy to use and does not take up much of your storage space. However, it also does not offer much in terms of function

In Softonic we scan all the files hosted on our platform to assess and avoid any potential harm for your device. Our team performs checks each time a new file is uploaded and periodically reviews files to confirm or update their status. This comprehensive process allows us to set a status for any downloadable file as follows:

Clean

It’s extremely likely that this software program is clean.

What does this mean?

We have scanned the file and URLs associated with this software program in more than 50 of the world's leading antivirus services; no possible threat has been detected.

Warning

This software program is potentially malicious or may contain unwanted bundled software.

Why is the software program still available?

Based on our scan system, we have determined that these flags are possibly false positives.

What is a false positive?

It means a benign program is wrongfully flagged as malicious due to an overly broad detection signature or algorithm used in an antivirus program.

We’d like to highlight that from time to time, we may miss a potentially malicious software program. To continue promising you a malware-free catalog of programs and apps, our team has integrated a Report Software feature in every catalog page that loops your feedback back to us.

Flag any particular issues you may encounter and Softonic will address those concerns as soon as possible.
